Usability/UX Test – Prototype
The Problem
All websites should prioritise usability and user experience (UX). Unfortunately many websites do not. This is a design and development experiment that starts and ends with those priorities.
This is an attempt to structure content/data – that could easily become unwieldy and confusing – in a way that the user (website visitor) always finds easy to navigate and access, where ever on the site they happen to be.
The design will be limited to these concerns :- a ‘wireframe’ prototype that can be evaluated before any branding and aesthetic elements are considered.
The Content/Data
A fictional organisation produces three main types of ‘content’ output for its website – Projects, Publications and News. These could be classified as ‘output categories’, ‘content types’ or ‘post types’.
In addition, this organisation covers a core set of subjects, across all its output categories. Again, these might be labelled ‘Topics’ or ‘Themes’. We’re opting for ‘Topics‘.
Lastly, there is further ‘meta’ data that could be included – for example: date, keywords and author.

The Result
Without going into details of the process, it is hoped the decisions and choices made in structuring the content/data on this website, make it easy and pleasing to use.
If you find any issues or can think of any way it might be improved, send us your feedback
Structure Outline
- Main Content Types – made independent entities : Article Listings, Archives, Authors, Dates. Sharing ‘Topic’ listings and filters. Accessible via ‘Menu’ and all pages.
- Topics – Article Listings by Date and Content Cat (ex: latest), Archives, Related Content. Accessible via ‘Menu’ drop-down and all pages.
- Author – Post Date Archive. Accessible all pages.
- Other Meta – Date, Keywords – available but not used.
