02. Why WordPress?

“Complete Design Freedom”

Despite what many web designers seem to think, WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS), not a web design tool.

Your website should be uniquely yours – with design that is equally distinctive. WordPress gives you complete creative control over whatever you decide to build.

The WordPress Web Design Process

Many people will have probably heard of the WordPress ‘Theme’. You can download pre-designed, generic Themes from the 100’s available in the WordPress Theme library. Some are free, some you have to pay for. These off-the-peg Themes have their place, and can be useful in certain scenarios. But they’re not going to work for those who require a professional approach.

The WordPress ‘Theming’ system doesn’t really play any part in design – the look and feel of your website. It is in fact just a framework of code routines and functions, that allow a web designer/developer to connect a database to standard web design technologies (HTML, CSS, JS etc.). Similar in many ways to a Application Programming Interface (API).

With WordPress you can start with a completely blank slate, allowing you to create any design from the ground up. Working alongside an experienced web designer, all aspects of your website’s design can be fully bespoke.
