Web Design Services for Charities
If you are a charity or a non-profit organisation, we offer a free help and advice service on anything Web related. So if you have any questions please don't hesitate to email us at: charities@friezedesign.co.uk
We believe charities should have access to a level of 'professionalism' and a quality to their Websites, that is not hampered by budget restraints. Money mustn't always dictate, which is why we offer heavily reduced rates on Web Design & Development projects for all not-for-profit and charity organisations.
Working With Charities - Wide Ranging Experience
We enjoy working for charities and non-profit organisations for the simple reason that we're making a small contribution to the many good causes these groups are trying to promote. Our experience is wide ranging, and includes:
Charity organisations supporting the concerns of those with disability
Charities in support of vulnerable groups, such as the elderly
Academic & educational charities set-up to encourage open learning
Arts charities who encourage wider access and participation

"... We were delighted to end up with a website that is accessible, calm and clear, that really emphasises the HemiHelp branding and helps us to show what we have to offer ..."
Catherine Bowden - Web Manager, HemiHelp.
"... Frieze Design made the whole process quicker, easier and more fun that I could possibly have hoped ..."
Claire Brooke - Fundraising Manager RADICLE."... He took time to consider the requirements of a large multifaceted organisation and provided us with simple and elegant solutions ..."
Phil Prior - Head of Marketing, Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Accessibility & Usability - WCAG, Triple A (AAA), PAS 78
We are especially aware of the importance good website accessibility and usability is for charities. We have specialist expertise in these areas and are able to deliver websites that adhere to all WAI WCAG (encompassing terms - triple A (AAA), Priority Level 3 and PAS 78) and W3C recommendations.
Unlike some web design companies, we produce websites with accessibility built-in by default. There seems to be this trend to 'add-on' accessibility features - like 'larger text' (A A A) and 'high contrast' options for a site. This shouldn't be necessary on a new website. An analogy would be to build a new building with a 'special' disability entrance around the back. A new building should be, by default, accessible to everyone by the same means.
It Has To Be Said... Beware Of (Old) Sharks!
This is something we've been aware of for a long time, but have not really wanted to say in any sort of 'public' space. However, we've worked with many charity organisations over many years, and too often we see charities being charged ridiculous sums for their web design and development projects.
It is usually the larger, 'originally print, now turned web' agencies, with their 'sales teams' and plush offices, who seem to be the worse culprits here. Set-up many years ago, it's unfortunate, but these types of print/web agencies are still using bloated methods and old, inefficient practices to produce websites. Only things have changed; now everyone is using the many, freely available, much more efficient open source Web Content Management Systems (CMS), and pricing should reflect this. But many of these larger agencies have found it difficult to adjust their working practices ... and their prices! It was these same agencies, by the way, who used to mock the open source community, of which we've always been strong supporters.
Sometimes the problem can lie with charity organisations themselves. When a charity embarks on creating a new website or a site redesign, not enough time or resources are given to researching the possibilities and options. This then can often lead to people with little understanding making decisions that may end up being very costly.
Web design and development is far more efficient and agile than it was five years ago. In many ways it's easier, at least in relation to site owners being in a position to be far more self-reliant; being able to maintain and update their websites independently. It is this high level of independence that we aim for as the end-result, when we produce a website for you.
We only say all this because we'd like to see charities saving money to spend on other things. But charities are still having to approve budgets of £30,000 (yes, really, sometimes that much) for their websites. We can hardly imagine a situation where 30k could ever be justified to produce a website?
